Our own Melissa Jun Rowley was at the red carpet of the ASCAP Awards, and she chatted with Natasha Bedingfield and Wyclef Jean about their charitable endeavors.
There are clothes strewn all over my bedroom and I have a few hours to pack for a two month tour. What do I bring and what do I leave? New York fashion week is the first stop, I'm singing at the op...

Your music is an inspiration. Keep doing your thing!
Dear Ms. Bedingfield,
My name is Baird Duschatko and I am the Creative Director of the 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, Bands For Lands. Our mission is to communicate the message and teach the practice of sustainability, conservation and social responsibility through co-creation between communities, the creative arts and inspirational leaders of the Green Revolution. The majority of funds raised at our events are allocated to local organizations aligned with our mission.
There are a growing number of humans who have awakened to the fact that in order to preserve our planet for generations to come, there must be profound change in our individual and community-based worldview. Advances in sustainable development are all innovative and presently accommodating (e.g. recycling, renewable energy, composting), but they are not the solution to the whole problem. These efforts are a good beginning, but in the entire scheme of things they are ineffective because of the global acceptance of an antiquated, dirty and ecologically harmful energy system. The global energy system has finally entered into the realm of change, but it is only the very beginning. We need to scrap the old system entirely and evolve into a new system, and that evolution comes from within the social and political structure of our local communities. Bands For Lands provides an innovative and viable way to gather local communities together to realize their inner potential not only as creative beings, but also as stewards of the Earth.
Bands For Lands feels the best way to inspire, awaken and empower is through the creative arts and direct involvement with local community organizations. Our vision is simple, but our journey is long and complex. We are in need of funds in the form of tax-deductible donations from individuals and businesses like you that believe that the current global system needs to change. Our yearly budget is $163,100, and we are seeking individual donations of $25-$1000. We have currently raised $10,000 from local venues, grants and personal loans, have a growing spring and summer schedule of events and appearances booked, and continue to align ourselves with leading edge captains of the Green Revolution. Your contribution will go directly into taking the evolution gear out of reverse and shifting it into forward.
By partnering ourselves with organizations and individuals such as you who are working towards a sustainable, conservation-oriented and socially responsible America, we are creating a network of conscious Americans. We are calling for all humanity to each realize their true potential, tap into their inner creativity, and create a planet that will thrive over infinite generations.
It would be an honor to have someone of your stature and influence support our cause and be an integral part of Bands For Lands’ mission. We will actively promote you as being a BFL supporter on all of our promotional materials and website, you will have full access to all of our monthly reports and upcoming projects, full VIP access to all of our events, opportunities to speak or perform at any of our events, and a permanent seat on our advisory committee.
If you would like to learn more about our organization, and receive our partner/sponsor package, please drop me a line at the address below.
Thanks very much for your time, and I look forward to your reply.
In our creativity, in our compassion, and in our community lies the solution.
Yours very truly,
Baird Duschatko

It's funny..when I heard your cry the other day, I realized the light I was looking for was coming from a Star, in the same way when you will read my words you will realize that I was looking for you too.
May an Angel deliver this message to you.
God bless.
Type-1 Diabetes is caused by the destruction of patient pancreatic beta cells and loss of the regulation of blood glucose levels. Islet transplantation is able to restore glucose control, but human islets for this therapy are not readily available.
Instead, xenotransplantation using islets from pigs is a better option since they are abundant, and have been shown to work in diabetic monkeys. However, some people are afraid that viruses resident in the pig genome could jump into human cells, thus causing an unexpected disease.
We have a solution!! We have found a way to prevent viruses from jumping from pig to human cells. We propose to develop genetically improved pigs for use in xenotranspantation. Engineered pigs developed from this project will be provided to University of Minnesota clinicians as they move islet xenotransplantation to clinical trials.
We have started a campaign to raise the funds to support the creation of these pigs. Join us at "the point" to make a difference! http://www.thepoint.com/campaigns/safe-pigs-to-help-cure-diabetes
Hi Natasha.
Ditto what Tucker said about your music. Tucker is the coolest kid on this site.
Doodle
hi it is tucker i like your music
My mom was murdered in October of 2005. She was a positive thinker and had a lust for life. Natasha's song, Unwritten always makes me think of my mom when I hear it. It reminds me of what my mom would always tell me, to live life to it's fullest, even if you don't quite know where you're going. Thank you Natasha for always inspiring me to think about the wonders and joys of life!
