Follow TnT as we attempt to "green" the Cauecast office and our own daily habits! http://www.causecast.org/news_items/9178-tnt-the-green-project
Get your green on! Yup, it’s T&T’s first week towards greening the Causecast office and changing some of our own daily habits. This week we are focusing on things that need to be changed to save energy.
First off, switching out those old fashioned light bulbs! CFL and LED lights are our best friends! Not only do they save energy and money over time, they will literally pay for themselves, seriously! Sustainable Works has taught us that CFLs use one-fourth the energy in contrast to non-energy efficient bulbs. Also, changing your lights to CFLs can reduce your electricity usage by 75 percent!
If you are looking into LEDs then kudos to you! LED lights may actually outlast CFLs by 10 times. LEDs have a life of their own and the their age proves it! A LED lifespan is around 15 years. If you are interested in learning what type of bulb i...Read More -

Join me in a pledge to Break the Bottled Water Habit!
http://water.newdream.org/campaigns/water/register/2bfcb04508d1b22fa68aad5965d0ff04/
Did you know you can reduce your carbon footprint, help eliminate waste and pollution? It’s a win-win situation for you, the community and the ecosystem.
What do you have to do? Just fill out the pledge form at http://water.newdream.org/campaigns/water/register/2bfcb04508d1b22fa68aad5965d0ff04/ and then start using reusable water bottles. It’s that easy. You’ll be doing your part to reduce the 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide produced in the manufacture of plastic bottles for the US consumption last year. Imagine saving the energy equivalent of a quarter bottle of oil for every bottled water you would have consumed – not to mention the money! Plus you’ll curb your carbon footprint by almost 41 pounds a year!
Visit the Break the Bottled Water Habit site to sign up and then tell your friends.

Chagas Disease a.k.a "Kissing Bug" Silently Kills
I attended the Doctors Without Borders meeting on "Chagas Disease: Break the Silence-Time to Treat" this past Thursday.
Probably like the rest of you, I have never heard of Chagas and the reasons for that are because it is not fully funded, people are not talking about enough, and there is just not enough research and information about it going on.
Chagas kills 14,000 people a year in 21 countries. About 300,000 of those killed by Chagas are in the U.S.
Chagas is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. A bug called the Vinchuca houses this parasite in its body and once the Vinchuca bites, the parasite is released into the blood system. The Vinchuca is also known as the "kissing bug." Chagas is not contagious but can be inherited, or transmitted through blood transfusions and organ transplants. The chronic phase of Chagas is when it doesn't affect a person right away, but it silently destroys the cardiac system. A person...Read More -

This is not the first time I have heard of a disease that is not given an adequate amount of attention that it should have.
The first thing that crossed my mind was my friend Jona who has been diagnosed with a very rare form of liver cancer. http://jonavark.weebly.com/
After learning that most of his doctors were getting their information from Wikipedia, I became more curious as to why there was not enough information out there to help treat Jona.
And now this... I have learned that Chagas disease is affecting poor communities in 21 Latin countries. And yet, this deadly disease is still being neglected. WHY?? http://ow.ly/rMXT
Doctors Without Borders is holding a panel discussion this Thursday, Oct 1st at 7:30p.m. @ The Broad Stage 1310 11th St. Santa Monica, CA

THE AGE OF STUPID
The excitement and fear of what The Age of Stupid film had in store finally laid it all out for theater goers last night.
The sounds of hunger pains, musty smell of water damaged homes, and the site of eroded glaciers and deforestation was everything I imagined The Age of Stupid would be. What was most interesting was the comparison of past (when I say past I mean current news feed distributed to us today but looking back on them as if we are in the year 2055) and present news videos. The visual landscape photos of what our world will turn into we if don't act NOW. No we can not just put the issues into a box and store it in the attic..we have to ACT now because if we do not curb emissions before the 2015..or at least 10% by 2010...there is no turning back for earth; Global warming would have already reached its tipping point by then if we don't take more responsibility today.
It was interesting to see the metrics on how are daily a...Read More
