  • God controls the weather & Prop 8 is going to court

Having just read this fabulous article:
This article basically says that because this Lutheran church in Minneapolis was going to discuss the "Proposed Social Statement on Human Sexuality,” a tornado came raging through the city and "splits what's left of the steeple in two and then lifts."
How would you describe this? Coincidence? Or an act of God?
The writer of the article believes it to be just that. He goes on to quote biblical references and explain how, obviously, homosexuality is a sin. And if a tornado ripping through a church isn't proof enough, then I don't know what is.
All extreme forms of outrage aside, I can see how someone would choose to make the connection. The timing was perfect, and apparently no one saw any sign of this tornado coming. I will not be surprised if this is something that will pop up later when any anti-gay marriage supporters can't think of something to quote. "Remember what happened in Minneapolis? That could happen all over the country!"

I could just be really cynical right now. I know that the article has ticked me off just a tad and this is mostly my reaction to it. But I can't believe that there are people like this man that exist. It's great that you throw your belief with no questions asked into this higher being known as God, but honestly? The article is ridiculous. I don't know another way to describe it. And I can't for the life of me figure out how to combat someone who has this belief and convince them that gays really aren't that bad.

Before I go into a full on rant, I'll change the subject a tad.
Good news from the other day, a judge has set January 11, 2010 as the trial date for the "federal lawsuit challenging California's gay marriage ban."
I'd like to classify this as good news. Even though the Prop 8 campaigns are not allowed to take part in this trial, I have high hopes. By eliminating partners like Equality California and Courage Campaign, all of the supporters of Yes on 8 aren't allowed within the trial either.
The comments have me worried, I'm hoping that by keeping out the different campaigns everything will work out better. But with the fast approaching trial date, it puts both sides in a time crunch to gather witnesses, make their case and get their proof ... or do whatever is necessary to bring Prop 8 to the courts.

For now, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.
