Why I Participate
I am also a strong advocate for my kids! In 2006, Casey our oldest child had a muscle biopsy which confirmed he had Mitochondrial Disease. The type has yet to be identified. Months later we had our other two boys checked and they too have mito. Mitochondrial Disease can cause many neurological issues such as seizures, autism, temperature problems, mood disorders, muscle weakness and fatigue, among many other issues. Casey has recently be diagnosed with Aspergers and Evan with High Functioning autism. Casey and Max our youngest child both suffer from seizures. We are amazed that Casey's Mito is the most severe because he is very gifted. Neurologically the Mitochondrial Disease and seizures haven't affected his IQ yet. We have found many other bright traits the boys have regardless of their disease. There is still so much the medical world doesn't know about mito. Everyday research is taking place trying to figure out how to cure this progressive disease. No one mito case is the same. Everyone is affected differently, which makes the disease even harder to understand. We don't know exactly how bad things will get with the boys, we pray things will stay as they are or get better but we have learned to take life day by day. This year, 2008, I have decided to use my art to help raise money for our home to supplement what the insurance company is not paying. Thanks for all the love and support! God Bless!
About Me
"For success in science and art, a dash of autism is essential" –Hans Asperger" I am a mother and artist. God has given me three special needs children. They help me view the world in a new light. I embrace the world around me and care more for humanity. I hate to see suffering and only understand kindness. Art is my vehicle to expression. BIO: Kim Dean, a native of Orlando Florida, who attended the Savannah College of Art and Design, describes her work as objective and non-objective modern abstract. Her inspiration comes directly from her family and depicts the close relationship she shares with her husband and children. She paints about what she knows best and that warmth and energy quickly comes through her work. Kim is fascinated with the human form and motivated by her life's experiences. Her work has been described as playful and child like, showing her inner child at play. Her children are her muses and with out them, Kim feels her work would lack love, passion, spirituality, empathy and substance
