It's back... water conservation! Or did it ever really leave? Angelenos, it's time to save our water again.

The California Water Awareness Campaign has launched their "Nice Save!" program just in time for water awareness month. It's sort of a pat-on-the-back for those of us who try to save water everyday.

In case you've haven't heard, the governor declared California's drought is the worst since 1977.

But just how bad is it? We know that LA and southern California drains every practical resource available but it seems that no mater how dire the situation is, radical changes haven't happened. I've even seen news reports that say the water crisis has been blown out of proportion.

Old programs like Drought Busters are scoping out water-abusers in our neighborhoods. The city is calling on all residents to do what they can to help save water; even urging to report that neighbor whose sprinkler runs all day or restaurants that serve you water before you ask.

I have an idea for the city, if this water crisis is indeed such.

Shut off the water for a day. Or ration our water.

We need to know 1) just how bad this is or 2) it's OK to power-wash our driveways twice a day.

I agree that it would be nice to know exactly where the water comes from, how it's allocated, who uses the most, where we are bleeding out and how we can put some checks and balances on the heaviest users. Clearly those with massive private acreage should be required to install conservation systems, right?

Being from the East Coast, I was (and still am) paranoid about the fact that so many people are somehow surviving in a DESERT and no one seems particularly worried. There's a lot of talk all the time, but little to no action. You bring up some good questions!
