I'm Busier Now Than When I Was Employed!
- Posted on 07.10.09
I've had an eventful week. A friend passed away, another friend lost her baby shortly after birth, and finally... I quit my job. Yes, I quit my job, and I can honestly say that this is the happiest I've been in a long time -- and I'm a pretty happy guy!
I left my job to pursue what I love. I love working for non-profits, and while I sit on a few boards and volunteer every now and then, I was dedicating as much of my time to it as I would have liked. Now, I'm unemployed (kinda), and I'm pursuing my passion.
It's gutsy. I mean, who in their right mind just quits a job without something lined up?! Most would think I'm crazy given the current economic climate, but I see it as my obligation. I was put on this earth to serve others, and that's what I'm doing. I've been working my butt off to make this happen, and I've got the support of some great organizations who will be helping me along the way -- I've even secured a book deal with a publisher!
I don't consider myself the best writer, but my friends always say, "Stephen, your life is NEVER boring!" I guess they're right because it always seems like I have a story to share. My friends listen, so why not share with the world?
Opportunities have been falling in my lap, and it's great! I consider myself to be very fortunate, and I'm rock it out as best as I can! I'm going to use the talents that I've been given to create my own company, help non-profits, and really show the world what I'm made of!
On tap for the weekend: a networking pool party with a few venture capitalists, friend flying in from Utah, hanging out with friends later tonight, AmeriCorps Leadership Council retreat, another pool party, and planning a memorial service my friend who recently passed away. Crazy, I know, but I'm doing what I love, and that's the only thing that matters.
Be sure to stay tuned as I update the goings on in my life. It's mostly service-related, so I hope you enjoy!
Yours in service,
Stephen
