Paddle Paddle Paddle Your Boat....

When I committed to dressing as a nerd, circa 1980s, I was hoping our team wouldn't be the only group decked out in costumey glory.
In retrospect, that was a silly thing to worry about. When 826LA throws down, people get decked out. The Echo park lake boathouse was overrun with robin hoods, sailor girls, bubble bees, mermaids, pirates and the like. The Loc Ness monster even made an appearance.
All together, this fabulous cast of characters managed to raise over $26,000 for 826LA, making them able to provide free tutoring and writing services to LA youth. How neat-o.
In reserve order of bombness, aka money raised, we hit the lake! The plotted course was treacherous, weaving us in and out of reeds in endless loops. In our boat, Captain Jin faithfully steered the course. I was by her side, as we pedaled double time to keep our boat chugging along. Who knew paddle boating was such a workout? We sure worked up a sweat…and I convinced myself that I don’t need to go to the gym for another 3 months.
