Ed and I began to develop our first bubble gum company in late 2000. When we first decided to take on this challenge, we were fully aware of the possibility that it could fail. We discussed this in depth, we assessed the risks as best we could, we made sure we were on the same page and in it together. We had barely been married a year, and the last thing we wanted was a cancer in our marriage. We had just bought our first house, gotten our first dog, and my son was about nine years old. We also wanted to have a baby of our own. Ed and I had worked very hard to get where we were, and we realized that we could be risking it all.
Nonetheless, it was one of Ed's greatest goals to own his own company, and we were very excited about the opportunity in front of us. It felt like the right idea and the right time.
