How it Ends - Lobby Days.
- Posted on 06.29.09
How it Ends lobby days in DC (http://www.howitends.tv/) was much more then just the biggest lobby days for Africa in history, with over 2000 dreamers and 300 of them being all the way from California, to ask our leaders if my life is as valuable as an African child's. It was more than listening to Luis Moreno-ocampo and Tom Shadyac share their brilliance or the 400 meetings we had with our congress and senators. But to me it was about about bunch of YOU'S coming together to create a WE.
WE are shaping human history. Finding what makes us individually come alive. What we can do to redefine out role in the world by refusing to let society put the twinkle in our eyes out. We are proving that if you are not free than I am not free. We are all humans and your skin color matters as little as your eye color. We want to give opportunity not charity. We are discovering our "full-ass passion!" We are putting purpose over profits and discovering what really matters. Together we have become free so that one day (SOON!) they will be free, and we refuse to stop until they are home.
If you have known me for five minutes or five years you know that Invisible Children has awakened me, brought out my free spirited adventurous side and the greatest community of friends (rescue riders!) Who ever says "stop caring about Ugandans we have problems with youth in America - do something about that" has no idea what they are talking about. Before Invisible Children and Resolve Uganda started was there schools4schools clubs in most high school and college campuses? Or did you ever hear about 2000 primarily 18-24 year olds spending their summer money to lobby in DC? We HAVE turned out apathy into action.
some of my new favorite words:
"If you came to help me, you are wasting your time, but if you came because your liberation is bound together with mine, then let us walk together." (check out http://www.fallingwhistles.com/)
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” Albert Einstein
"To live is the rarest thing in the world. most people exist, that is all." - Oscar Wilde
Three simple steps to use your voice for the voiceless from team epic peace seekers aka 5 crazy Cali kids who drove to DC and back in a tiny car!
Step 1: Find out who your congressman or woman is. You can find out here by entering your zip code.

Step 2: Once you find out who your congressman or woman is, check the up-to-date information on the Resolve Uganda website. Figure out if your congressman or woman has signed.

Step 3: If yes, send them a quick letter, email, fax or phone call thanking them and telling them how much this means to you.
If no, send them a letter, email, fax or phone call telling them why they should sign on.
As of right now, we have 13 Senate sponsors and 60 House sponsors. but that is not enough! We need more!!!
There are 200+ amazing individuals in this group. Have you ever heard 200 people scream? It's loud. Put your voices together for the voiceless. Tell your leaders what you want them to do.
