Why I Participate

I am college student that will graduate in Dec. with a teaching degree in elementary education. I will be doing my student teaching internship at a great elementary in Tx working with Child Refugees from all over the world. These kiddos are all from 3rd world countries. Nepal, Burma, Africa, Ethiopia etc. They are bright children who are New Comers to the U.S. New Comers are children that are new to the U.S and placed in a classroom that are grade k-2 and 3-5th.They are split up by k-2 and 3-5th to learn the basics in school subjects and everyday skills. I can't wait to embark on this great 3 month adventure ! :)

About Me

I have also been an officer V.P of Invisible Children at my college. I love it. Our last big event was The rescue where hundreds of people/students displaced themselves outside until a rescuer came to our site, said a few words, and cared about the cause of ending Child Soldiers in Africa. It was a great and successful day and night. We tripled our amount we made. Into the night A group of us Rescued Austin, Tx. Sleeping outside on the TX capital lawn for 2 days. No showers, No Sleep, Just constant waiting for the Rescuer. We wound up getting spokes people from different senators and a tweet from Gov. Rick Perry ! It was an AMAZING event. Would do it again in a heart beat.

My Interest

I love doing things that are meaningful to people and can create a great outcome. I love teaching children. Especially ones that are getting a first chance at an education. It is so rewarding to see a shy and timid kid that came from a third world country not having any formal training recite a couple sentences in their favorite storybook. These kids strive to be the doctor, teacher, lawyer and they will do anything to achieve that !
