Watch out---lotta hyphens coming at ya: When not in down dog or om’ing my heart out, I’m a producer/director/writer/host/ and apparently now a vlogger and a blogger. After many years of producing for Discovery Channel, TLC, Vh1, Animal Planet, Travel Channel and HGTV in Los Angeles and Washington, DC, I thought I’d give this whole internet thing a try and moved to San Francisco to work with Seesmic, a social networking and video content site. Once there, I created a show called NewspOp that covered a range of topics from the G-spot (yes, that one) to global warming, gay marriage, Burma, coral reef preservation and polyamory. Seesmic’s motto was “Join the Video Conversation” so my series was one of the first hybrid shows to integrate a social networking community with produced video content. It was so crazy successful and fabulous that the entire content department was let go last year. Yep. Ok, actually that had to do with this little recession deal, not our performance. The good news is that my experience at Seesmic opened my eyes to the brave new world of transmedia. Yes, you have to be very brave to enter but you don’t have to change your sexual orientation. Transmedia, hybrid shows, brand integration, social networking, online video content, etc… to me those are all fancy/geeky sounding names for storytelling. So I could ditch all those hyphens and say really I’m a storyteller and I strive for my stories to engage, entertain and enlighten.
