Resources > Human Life: My Problem w/ One Dude's Equation "In a world where our population is outgrowing the resources that nature can provide would the death of people, which includes -sorry to say- children, be considered a form of Population control. It’s a cruel way to look at things, but by saving million of lives yearly you are making it more difficult for the planet to sustain itself. As the planet is now it’s beyond is point of stability… The more people the planet tries to support, the quicker it dies. Simple as that."

    - Chris Petruno, heartless bastard (& possible spawn of Hitler?)

Petruno’s comment is the most recent on the page of the Ted Talk featuring Michael Pritchard’s LIFESAVER water bottle, which I mentioned a couple of posts ago (http://bit.ly/LSVERP). I have to ask you, Petruno—would you be saying the same thing if we were talking about saving the cities of London, Paris, or Madrid? If a natural disaster had ravaged the capital of the US instead of the capital of the Philippines, would you still be giving the OK...Read More

Not a sugary ring, but a real LIFESAVER First heard about this last night through Poketo’s blog (http://bit.ly/44LP4w). Then I noticed @JannelleSo of Kababayan LA tweet about it this morning (http://twitter.com/JannelleSo). If you’ve got a benjamin to burn, you can send via LIFESAVER (http://bit.ly/qaCLu) one of these nifty bottles straight to Manila where they need it. I’d say it’s money well spent.

The Quick Hit Primer for California Medical Marijuana Law* In 1996, California voters passed landmark legislation allowing marijuana to be used for medical purposes. Since then, additional resolutions and court precedents have been cultivating the medical marijuana industry into what it is today. Naturally, a great deal of law enforcement and elected officials are resistant to the cultural and political changes that the medical marijuana movement has brought on. Nevertheless, the spark of the movement has only begun to blaze.

Here are the basics you need to know.

    Vocabulary
collective – a non-profit entity recognized by the state of California. The state acknowledges the demands on an individual’s time and money that goes along with cultivation. That’s why the state allows collectives to form as private and exclusive organizations, which can only consist of qualified patients and primary caregivers. In other words, a collective is a group of patients and caregivers who collectively pool their resources together to obtain an...Read More

  • An organic experience.

An organic experience. I had pleasant time at the Hollywood Farmer's Market (http://www.farmernet.com/) this past Sunday. Matt said it's about the same price-wise as the grocery store (I never buy veggies at the grocery store so I wouldn't know :/), but I think the quality of the produce is fresher and there are much more organic-oriented options.

But I also say it's an organic experience because... well, you know at the grocery stores, sometimes they have chalkboards and lattice decorations and other design choices for the produce section that give it that ye-old-tyme/mom-and-pop-market nuance? But it's really not? Well, the Farmer's Market actually is what those places attempt to recreate. There was such a diverse crowd shopping for greens today w/ their reusable green bags. Plus, there were various street musicians and a guy making balloon animals for kids and a little artsy alley and some cute dogs even though people aren't supposed to bring their dogs 'cause it's a "health code violation." It was ...Read More

Green Gourmet I recently attended a taping of "Top Chef: Masters" and it surprised me to find that "sustainable" seemed to be a buzz word among the competing chefs. As I floated from table to table, I noticed a couple of these culinary savants touting the sustainability of certain ingredients used for their exquisite presentations. It was very encouraging to hear. Moreover, every participant's reward goes toward the charitable organization of their choice. All in all, I think this makes their dishes that much more delicious.
