The Loss of a warrior mother... Dedication to Catherine Rose ( Cafaro) Busse 1962 - 2008
- Posted on 10.22.08
This is my lame attempt to eulogize a huge loss to the sisterhood and brotherhood of parents with autism. To use Jenny's term... This lady was a true "Warrior Mother". I have never been very eloquent at times like these. To be honest I know that I have some tendencies of Aspergers. So I apologize in the beginning if I offend anyone at this difficult time.

SEAL BEACH – A woman hit by a truck Sunday while riding a bicycle with her autistic son died Tuesday, family members said.
Cathy Busse of Seal Beach was pronounced dead by doctors on Tuesday and was taken off life support on Wednesday, her husband said.
"She was a wonderful woman," Ben Busse said. "She was a good mother and a good advocate for her son."

One of the greatest fears we all have as parents of children with special needs is what happens after we are gone. Cathy fought every minute of her life for her son and it was obvious she loved life. She also thought enough to have a special needs trust in place. Most of us are struggling with the day to day issues and are too afraid to think that far ahead. Then there are the lack of time, resources, and experts to help you do the things you must do to help the next generation stay afloat.
Society must wake up. We are on 6 to 10 years away from massive numbers of children turning into adults. Then what? I have said over and over the bailout for Wallstreet was a drop in the bucket compared to the Trillions of dollars it will take to look after this generation of children with Autism.
As you contribute to Cathy's memory and the Sam's future remember and pray for all the families that will need resources into the millions of dollars to care for their adult children.
God bless you Cathy. We pray today for your family. Sam's Future and the future of all children with autism
