  • Who says Autism Is not Fatal Dr. Julie Gerberding? Warrior Dad Gives Up FIght Takes Sons Life

images_(54).jpg This is where the tragic tale ends up folks. Two dead, many family members shattered, and society loses unknown potential. The headline could have just as easily read Tanners Dad ends the story. Ryan's situation was eerily similar to my own and many other warrior fathers. Fighting for our son, giving up careers, piled under by bills, losing jobs, no support, and at wits end.

The following is a list of interventions that Ryan was trying to do for his son. The first one on the list should be a red flag. The debate has started across the net. Why why why. The answer is written in this column on the website Ryan created for Kyle. Usually a parent does not so graphically and specifically spell out every therapy and intervention we are doing for our child. This all in one place shows how big the pile is and that he looked at it all at the same time everyday that he updated his site.

Kyle has been seeing the following
    physicians with corresponding issues:

    Psychiatrist – (behaviors, issues still
    ongoing, but significantly better)
    Endocrinologist- (puberty, monthly shot being
administered to control heavy onset of
puberty naturally produced at my age)
    Ear-Nose-Throat-(drooling, minor surgery
    completed..no more drooling!!!)
Pediatrician- (now have one, and this one
    specializes in Autism)
Orthopedist-(Half leg braces for feet and legs
being used to help me walk better)
    Neurologist- (Seizures under control at
    present time)
Dentist- (minor surgery completed, all dental
    problems solved)
Sleep Study- (sleeps 14 hours a day with
naps included, hoping to know if I am not
    obtaining REM sleep)
    Occupational therapy- (helping him move,
especially lower body so there is no falling or
tripping. Right foot is severely turned inward.
This is in addition to his school therapies)
    Rehabilitation M.D.-(Oversees coordination
    of all my care)

Society must look at Generation Rescue and other groups as being an outlet to help these parents. The resource for coping and network of support help parents deal with the stress of Autism. No where else is anyone reaching out. Not the government, educational system, medical establishment, insurance industry, pharmaceutical industry, religious organizations, many relatives, friends, and corporate society. In many cases these organizations become adversarial to the situation and raise the stress levels.

I hope today we all reflect, say a prayer, and do something for this cause. The bailout for wall street is nothing compared to what parents need. I promise you if they call me to Washington to testify the trip will be by bicycle because that is all I can afford... Maybe not I forgot my tires need air and that is now 75 cents.

Do not laugh... Cry, pray, donate. http://www.causecast.org/member/tanners-dad
