The Presidential Transition Health Policy Team is encouraging Americans to host and attend Health Care Community Discussions across the country between December 15 and December 31. Autism Health Care Twitter day will be December 23rd ALL DAY because of the difficulties these families face in getting together. These Community Discussions are par of the President-elect's continuing efforts to reach out and directly involve the American people in their own government.
Health Care is a top priority for President-elect Obama, and he wants your help in designing a system that provides quality, affordable health care for all Americans. His nominee to be Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tom Daschle, is attending several Health Care Community Discussions. He and his Team will review the submissions from all of these gatherings. President-elect Obama wants to bring the voices and health care concerns of all Americans to Washington. On his behalf, Thank You for helping to make this happen on December 23rd for families dealing with Autism, promoting the day, and participating in this discussion.
We have three goals:
1. To discuss Autism and Health Care reform and draft a submission to the transition Health Policy Team.
2. To use a process to do this that in a way that respects and empowers attendees
3. To identify stories that exemplify the need for health care reform for the families dealing with Autism.
We will Respect everyone. We will listen (read) all comments. We will engage in a spirited discussion without being disagreeable. I am here to facilitate the process. I am not doing this to tell anyone what to do or offfer sugestions.

Sen. Daschle,
Thank you for inviting us to this important discussion. The concerns over childhood autism extend beyond the basic questions of caring for and accommodating children with autism spectrum disorders. As you may be aware, a vocal and disruptive minority of parents, aided by Hollywood celebrities, are using the internet and the nation's news and entertainment media to link autism with scheduled pediatric vaccines. Let's be clear - there is no credible scientific evidence that associates one with the other. But this persistent myth is discouraging some parents from immunizing their children, and as a result we've seen measles outbreaks at rates not seen in over a decade. This is inexcusable.
We've also seen the emergence over the last ten years or more of an autism "cure" industry that preys on parents. Unproven treatments with little or no chance of success, such as chelation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and anti-viral drugs, are draining family resources, and sending a message that children with autism as toxic or "vaccine injured". Be very mindful of these ruses as you consider what kind of health coverage the government might provide to parents of children with autism. Health care fraud is an $80 billion a year racket, and the bad guys know about autism.
Thank you, and congratulations on your party's success in the fall elections. I very much look forward to a return of scientific inquiry free of stifling ideologies.
