I wrote to the pharmaceutical companies and asked for help…

And heard nothing.

After two heart attacks at 38. Losing my job in the financial crisis. Being at wits end with education, medical establishment, and insurance. The overall apathy of the community at large.

I have decided to have a sit out for the month of April. I am going to do what the majority of the politicians, ministers, Doctors, Administrators, neighbors, and mean spirited shock jocks do and drop out.

Sometimes the Sound of Silence can be an advocate…

Now I am at the wire and debating my final course of action... No guts no glory. Is the guts sticking around to fight another day or is the guts following through....

The basis of this post was going to be the root of the word decision... You can tell I have been on it awhile... here are some of my notes....

I have De cide d to stage a sit out for Autism Awareness month. A month ago I posted ………………….
I think there already is too much talk and too little action. Our line in the sand is drawn. We must do something to stem the tide of rising cognitive delays in children. A plan of action has to be developed to address the issues of the number of children with Autism and also address how we care for these individuals age they approach adulthood. Already we have seen issues of violence, mistreatment, abuse, and loss of life (both the afflicted and innocent).
The term De cide comes for the Middle English, from latin decidere, which litterly means to cut off. From De- + Caedere to cut. Cide denotes an act related to killing. In its wider meanin it may also signify the destruction or dismantling of an object or concept. Autcide therfore is putting an end to Autism. We will stand up and let the world know this month that our treatment, advancement, time table, response, and acceptance is not acceptable. We need to do more and do it now.

When attached to a word indicating an animal or plant considered to be pestilent, the combined word is frequently used to indicate a substance used to eliminate the pest in question.

Algaecide/Algicide: The killing of algae, or a substance which performs this function.
Amicicide: The killing of a friend; also applied to "friendly fire" within the military.
Avicide: The killing of birds, or a substance which performs this function.
Avunculicide: The killing of one's uncle.

Bactericide: The killing of bacteria, or a substance which performs this function.
Biocide: The killing of living material, or a substance which performs this function.
Barbicide : A chemical compound used by barbers to disinfect combs, brushes, etc.

Deicide: Either the killing of a God or divine entity, or destruction or dismantlement of either the general concept of such beings, or a concept regarding a specific being, e.g. through critical thought, aka Nietzsche.
Democide: An act of killing perpetrated by a government. (literally killing cide of the people demos)

Ethnocide: The killing of an ethnic group.
Exfenestracide: A death by jumping/falling out of a window.

Femicide: The killing of a woman.
Feticide/Foeticide: The killing of a fetus.
Filicide: The killing of one's child.
Fratricide: The killing of one's brother; also used to designate friendly fire.
Fungicide: The killing of fungus, or a substance which performs this function.

Genocide: The killing of a race or ethnic group.
Gendercide: The systematic killing of members of a specific sex.
Germicide: The killing of germs, or a substance which performs this function.
Gynaecide, gynecide: The killing of women.

Specicide: The deliberate extinction of certain species.
Spermicide: The killing of sperm, or a substance which performs this function.
Suicide: The killing of oneself.

Taeniacide: The killing of tapeworms, or a substance which performs this function.
Technocide: The killing(i.e. destruction) of technology.
Terracide: The killing of the planet Earth.
Trypanocide: The killing of trypanosomes, or a substance which performs this function.
Tyrannicide: The killing of tyrants.
Tomecide: The destroying of books

Urbicide: Destruction of urban area i.e. city or town.
Uxoricide: The killing of one's wife.

What can you do today...

If you are a parent... Love your child unconditionally. Do not let your child feel they are any less because they cannot communicate the way we do or look after themselves. Do not forget to look after yourself and your significant other. ( If you don't have one find one...There is someone out there for everyone. You deserved to be loved also). Join a church. Speak to your friends. Keep up the good fight.

If you are Friend... If you have resources please consider supporting Generation Rescue as they move the agenda towards services and support programs. If you do not have financial resources provide respite services... Babysit, go with a parent to the grocery store, or running errands. Be there to listen.

If you are in the medical community it is time to wake up and do something...
If you are in the insurance industry it is time to make the people responsible pay...
if you are in the media it time to tell the truth...
If you are in the government it is time act...
If you are in education it is time to educate...
If you are in a religious community it is time to rally the troops to support families...

If you are in the New York City Office of Autism Speaks... remember that $50,000 you took from my community this fall could have helped to pay for my sons therapy this year.
