Faith Music Autism and life
- Posted on 04.05.09
I woke up this morning with the music from the musical Annie running through my head. I am not music addict. I do not understand my wifes collection of records, tapes, and cds. I think I can count the number I have purchased on one hand. I do not own an Ipod. I usually listen to motivational or instructional cds in the car. Although I enjoy the local Christian station in the morning. For some reason, my brain just can not decipher the words. Sometimes though the chorus just starts playing in your mind. I guess because some songs we have heard enough that the words come to life and have a mission of their own.
What does this all have to do with Autism. Well I believe that music will one day be the key in unlocking the mysteries of Autism. I have seen many individuals on the spectrum light up, smile, dance, interact, and join us for a few minutes. It pains me to see them cutting music therapy classes around campuses across the country. This is a link to a very short documentary on one of the first music therapy classes in the country started in 1944 at Michigan State that will soon lose its funding. I think it is a crime. http://tinyurl.com/cyc8rl I hope and pray this trend does not continue.
Certain days and at certain times the music is the key that unlocks Tanners world. We dance and laugh. A Father Son moment that is more pure can not be imagined. It actually makes me cry to think about those precious minutes of unity. I wonder if that was a special blessing that God gave to us to relieve stress all along. We take this gift for granted and abuse the privilege. A musician is an artist. Music is a gift. In all forms we must cultivate and continue the Arts in schools. I guess that is my soap box story for today.
I love the way my brain works. It is firing on so many cylinders. I pray that one day I coordinate them enough to be an economic engine in some way. If anybody has any thoughts on turning this brain into a money maker I need to know. That brings me full circle as to why Annie was singing tomorrow to me this morning. We are going to a local Autism walk today and it supposed to be raining. Yes the dollars will be kept locally for services. I will be sure to ask and follow the money. I tweet that about 100 times a day asking people to question some of the larger Autism groups use of the money during a depression.
Anyway enough rambling. Say a prayer for Tanner, my wife, and I. To stay dry, to live for tomorrow, battle the economy, and keep a smile. I know the sun will come out tomorrow. God Bless.
The sun'll come out
Tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar
That tomorrow
There'll be sun!
Just thinkin' about
Tomorrow
Clears away the cobwebs,
And the sorrow
'Til there's none!
When I'm stuck with a day
That's gray,
And lonely,
I just stick out my chin
And Grin,
And Say,
Oh!
The sun'll come out
Tomorrow
So ya gotta hang on
'Til tomorrow
Come what may
Tomorrow! Tomorrow!
I love ya Tomorrow!
You're always
A day
A way!

Speak to your friends. Keep up the good fight.
