Why I Participate
I think elie wiesel says it best, "The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference." I was fortunate enough to be exposed to other cultures growing up as a kid so the seed for global awareness was planted at a young age. Prejudice and stereotypes live because of ignorance. I don't judge those that are ignorant because not all people are fortunate enough to have been raised with an open mind or have the opportunities to have intimate experiences with those outside of their own culture. Since I was afforded the luxury of traveling to countries such as; South Africa, Nicaragua and Japan, I feel as though it's my duty to pass along my experiences of global and social awareness. I am very passionate about humanity. I realize that might seem absurd to most people, because I bet if you were to ask your parent or sibling if they believed in humanity there response would probably include a laugh and an "of course" but from my standpoint all too often people get absorbed in the race called capitalism and forget the importance of humanity. Social awareness of our "neighbors" isn't isolated to global awareness but I believe social awareness even needs to be highlighted within cities. Los Angeles is a prime example of an insular city that breeds ignorance because of its' geographical lay out and the somewhat mediocre public transportation system. Los Angeles is the home to one of the largest stable homeless populations in the country. Ironically, the city is also home to one of the largest grossing industries in the world- Hollywood. These two worlds exist within one city but the people in these two worlds rarely even brush shoulders. I think everyone should get to know their neighbor.
About Me
When I was a little girl I was living in Paris, France and there were always gypsies in the metros. One day I asked my mom why they weren't in school and my mom told me that they moved around a lot and played music for the people getting on and off the trains in order to buy food for themselves. I was 8 years old and I told my mom that I wanted to be a gypsy when I grew up. She laughed but thus far I've been pretty good at fulfilling that dream (minus the playing music part). I'm a vagabond in the truest sense and my love of learning about other cultures and other people never seems to be mute.
My Interest
Although I'm a vagabond, I call New York and Paris home and I love everything that goes along with those cities (the good, the bad, and the ugly). I'm not a favorites kind of girl, more of a top five. I love people with passion, I'm more opt to connect with a passionate mail man than a cynical business man (UNLESS that business man has a passion for numbers and computing and just cannot get enough of NUMBERS).
