Alone with a Mule, A 24 year old girl treks 600 Miles for Charity.
April Nabholz set out to complete a 600 mile horseback ride in order to raise $7,500 for Heifer International. She began the ambitious trek with her friend Dana, however things quickly changed. After 200 miles Dana informed April she wouldn’t be continuing. She had decided to abandon the charity trek to move onto a ranch with her new cowboy boyfriend, whom she had only just met. Not only would she be leaving the trip, but she decided she would would also take their three horses. “I had 20 hours to decide what to do,” Nabholz said when interviewed. She decided that she would continue the journey on her own, with her trusty mule Honeychild and the $40 in her pocket. “To continue alone would’ve required different gear. They offered to take the mule back, but what it came down to was I made a commitment to the fundraiser and to the mule. I felt my goals weren’t finished.”
