Is America Anti-Bike?
With the rise in gas prices, people are finally beginning to get out and use alternative modes of transportation. The easiest? A bicycle. In the U.S, most people assume that less people ride bikes than in European cities because of the size of America cities. According to the Washington Post this isn’t the case. They instead attribute it to America being less cycle-friendly than other countries. For example Berlin is a highly populated city, however there is a great bike network set up.
Abraham, a recent convert to cycle commuting in Berlin, estimates that he now saves about $35 a week on gasoline. That’s not the only benefit. Thanks to Berlin’s finely tuned cycling network, he also knows exactly how long his 7 1/2 mile commute will take — 35 minutes. If he drives, the trip takes between 20 minutes and 1 1/2 hours, depending on traffic.
Another interesting factor is that weather doesn’t seem to affect how many people ride. For example the Dutch are #1 in bikers.

Your workplace should have a place to shower and change if they want you to ride to work...cause otherwise you gonna be straight up whack all day long.

We should start creating communities with alternative transportation in mind from the beginning, not as an afterthought.
