Bishops In California Declare Same Sex Marriages Beneficial To Church

When people think of the official stance of churches on gay marriage, most assume they are against it. This isn’t the case when it comes to the six most senior Episcopal bishops in California. On Wednesday they voted unanimously to show their opposition if the November ballots offered making gay marriage illegal. They felt that preserving the right of gays and lesbians to marry would enhance the “Christian values” of monogamy, love and commitment. At the diocese headquarters in Echo Park, the six bishops said in a statement, “Society is strengthened when two people who love each other choose to enter into marriage, engaged in a lifetime of disciplined relationship building that serves as a witness to the importance of love and commitment.”
