The 26 Year Ban On Offshore Drilling Might Be Lifted
The House of Representatives has passed legislation that will open up drilling for oil and natural gas 50 miles off the coast. The legislation states that the states adjacent to the drilling would have to allow it. They’d also get money from the sale of the oil. It’s most likely that the Senate will not pass this. If drilling is opened it won’t actually produce any oil for a couple of years. The bill also includes $18 billion in tax breaks for the top 5 oil companies over the next 10 years. Offshore drilling has been banned for the past 26 years, and the passing of this bill would be groundbreaking. One thing everyone can agree on is that offshore drilling will be bad for the environment.
If you could either pass or veto this bill what would you do?
