Milk Film Buzz Nears Boiling Point

Early reports are saying that Sean Penn is a shoe-in for an Oscar nomination with his portrayal of Harvey Milk. Milk was the first openly-gay politician in office. The excitement for this film is off the charts and according to the co-president of Focus Features, it’s justified. “He’s just channeling him; it’s crazy. He is Harvey Milk,” Schamus said of the Oscar-winner’s performance. “Go online and look at Harvey Milk and look at the trailer, and it’s like we hired Harvey Milk.” “Gus is always going to push the limits of film language,” Schamus said of the film’s director, Oscar nominee Gus Van Sant. “Usually he’s trying to bring into the culture, in particular, young people that have been left outside. His heart and his voice go to people who are not allowed to speak.
With the election coming up and gay rights being such an important issue, this film is sure to be a heated talking point.
