Women In The UK Are More Interested In Celebrity Than Breast Cancer Prevention

In England, a Breast Cancer Campaign poll of 1,000 found the scary truth that 4 out of 5 women could name Wayne Rooney’s wife (Coleen McLoughlin) whereas only half of the women check their breasts for lumps once a month or more.
More than 40% of the women over the age of 65 believed that they were not at risk for breast cancer. In reality, 80% of people diagnosed with breast cancer are over 50 years old. Arlene Wilkie, director of research and policy at Breast Cancer Campaign, said, “While women are clued up about the latest gossip from celeb-land, it appears they are dismissing serious information that could save lives. More than 45,500 women in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and we know that early diagnosis gives the best possible chance of survival.”
It’s very sad that many of these women have put tabloid celebrity before their health. This isn’t to say you can’t do both. You would think with breast cancer being such a huge issue more people would be clued into it.
