United States Government researchers have said that the infant death rate has dropped 2%. While this is good news, the US’s rate is still very high for an industrialized nation.

7 out of 1000 infants died in 2006. What does this mean? One thing it means is that we’re paying a lot for health care but not getting much back. The Infant mortality rate has long been a great indicator of the medical system of a country. In 2006, Americans spent $6,714 per capita on health — more than twice the average of other industrialized countries. “Infant mortality and our comparison with the rest of the world continue to be an embarrassment to the United States,” said Grace-Marie Turner, president of the Galen Institute, “How can we get better outcomes?”

That’s a great question, how can we get better outcomes? A lot of people think that Barack Obama or John McCain’s new health care plans might be the answer. What do you think?
