Is Autism Linked to Rainfall?

Since Autism is on the rise, scientists are trying to figure out what causes it. Mark Lever, chief executive of The National Autistic Society said, “In recent years autism has been linked to factors as varied as older aged fathers, early television viewing, vaccines, food allergies, heavy metal poisoning, and wireless technology, to name just a few. Some of these theories are little more than conjecture or have been discredited, others seem more promising and are in need of further study. As yet, however, very few have been substantiated by scientific research.”
Because of this, Lever believes that the notion of rainfall causing autism is ridiculous. “The notion that autism is caused by higher rainfall is manifestly absurd. It is about time we recognized that autism has largely genetic causes and devoted our energies to providing the best possible education and care services for people with autism and their families.” This comes after a US study found that the rate of autism was higher in states that featured higher rainfall. According to them the high amount of rainfall in the first three years of the child’s life are related to autism.
It’s important to test everything out in order to try to prevent more children from becoming autistic. What do you think causes autism?

Genetics loads the gun. Environment pulls the trigger. Somebody said that procrastination is just suicide on the installment plan. In this case the saying maybe coming true for the Human Race. In 20 years we have gone from 1 in 10,000 diagnosed with Autism to just about 1 in 6 children having Cognitive delays.
