Edward Reilly Selected to Lead USO Board of Governors

Edward T. Reilly, president and CEO of the American Management Association, has been unanimously elected by the USO’s World Board of Governors to become its next Chairman. In his new role, Mr. Reilly will work closely with the other members of the Board, and the USO’s newly-appointed president and CEO, Sloan D. Gibson, to help the organization meet the historic challenges it now faces, as it strives to serve the men and women of our military fighting on two fronts overseas, as well as their families here at home.
Reilly has served on the USO’s all-volunteer Board since 2002, and as its Vice Chair since 2007. He will succeed William G. Moll when Mr. Moll’s term expires on December 1st, 2008.
“Edward Reilly is an ideal choice to take over the chairmanship of the USO Board of Governors. He is passionate about the debt America owes to her fighting men & women, and equally passionate about the USO’s role in repaying that debt. Ed has seen the USO’s morale-boosting programs in action, both overseas and back home. He clearly understands what our troops and their families need and what the USO must do to fulfill those needs. I feel fortunate to have Ed succeed me as Chairman and will continue to support him, and the USO, in any way I can,” Mr. Moll said.
“I am honored to assume this new role for the USO. Every time I visit a USO center, I am inspired by the dedication and loyalty of these magnificent men and women. It’s the USO’s job to make sure that every soldier, sailor, airman, Marine and Coast Guardsman around the world knows that their fellow Americans are behind them and that we appreciate the sacrifices they’re making every day – for us. All of our more than 130 centers and 40,000 volunteers are dedicated to serving their needs, until every last one of them comes home.”
Prior to joining the AMA, a global training organization with offices and affiliates in the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America, Reilly spent four years as president and chief executive officer of Big Flower Holding, Inc. (now Vertis, Inc.), a leading provider of Internet marketing and advertising services. Reilly spent more than 25 years with The McGraw-Hill Companies, holding various finance and leadership positions. In 1987, he became the president of the McGraw-Hill Broadcasting Company. He has held chairman positions on numerous boards, including the Television Bureau of Advertising, the Association for Maximum Service Television and the Advertising Council, and was a board member of the National Association of Broadcasters.
Reilly serves on the boards of directors of AARP Services, Inc., Media & Entertainment Holdings, Inc., New York Society of Association Executives, and the North American Advisory Board of the UCD Michael Smurfit School of Business in Dublin, Ireland. He is also a fellow of the International Academy of Management. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from St. Francis College in New York, and resides in Westport, CT, with his wife, Susan.
