Keira Knightly is New Face of Amnesty International
Keira Knightley has a brand new role to brag about. But this one won’t be shown on the big screen. Keira’s taking a new direction with her career by becoming the new face of a campaign by human rights charity Amnesty International.
She recently posed for her new ad, holding a banner reading “Protect The Human” to mark the 60th anniversary of the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights . That declaration was first signed all the way back in December of 1948 . In conjunction with the campaign, Keira has also lent her star status by making a short film to bring even more awareness to the matter.
Keira says, “I wanted to be part of this film for Amnesty to help raise awareness of the UDHR and to help them, in a small way, to campaign against the abuses of human rights that are still happening every day. It seems that ‘human rights’ has become a bit of a loaded term in this country, but if you look at the declaration that countries made 60 years ago, it just sets out a series of basic rules about how people should treat each other. The UDHR is something that everyone should be aware of and be proud of as a statement of our common humanity.”
What a cool thing for Keira to do! And this seems like the perfect campaign to come out right around the holidays, when everyone is reminded to be a little more humane to one another. And that includes you, crazy mall shoppers!
