Think Green for St. Patrick's Day

We know you’re an open-minded, humane, eco-conscious and progressive person. Does that mean you’re not going to enjoy a few beverages on St. Patrick’s Day? We hope not. I mean, you’re only human!
To that end, Causecast has compiled a few tips for staying healthy and green this March 17.
If you’re “celebrating” at home, Slate.com recommends drinking beer from aluminum cans instead of glass bottles. Aluminum is easier to recycle than glass and unless your city offers refillable glass bottles (note: it doesn’t) you’re better off crushing and recycling those cans.
Better yet, if you’re really serious about reducing your waste, do away with bottles and cans and—I can’t believe I’m actually recommending this—buy a refillable keg. They last up to 20 years and will come in handy if you live close to specialty breweries. You’ll never have to go out for St. Patrick’s Day again. It just gets better. If you do have an old keg or perhaps ruined your coffee maker while making Irish coffee, call Causecast organization NextStep Recycling to take it off your hands.
Moving on to healthier activities, our friends over at Super Eco suggest using St. Patrick’s Day as a way to promote “green” eating among your guests. Serve them corned beef sandwiches, but cover it in organic cabbage, kale and spinach. If vegetarian eating is your cause, it’s going to be a tough day to get through, but if meaty sandwiches are topped off with oft-overlooked veggies, it might inspire some friends to add some green into their diet. Got to spend money to make money, right?
Take Part has printed some traditional Irish recipes, and suggests the Eat Well Guide as a method for finding locally grown food. Pretty much every ingredient you might need for St. Patrick’s Day can be purchased from local food vendors. Except for Lucky Charms. You’ll still have to go to Ralph’s for those.
What are our plans, you ask? Don’t worry about a thing. The Causecast crew is attending the greatest party of all. We’re going to sit in the office and consecutively watch all six Lepruchaun films. Beat that, SXSW!
