World Aids Orphans Day - An Opportunity to Make a Difference

Over 15 million children worldwide have lost at least one parent to AIDS, 12 million of them in sub-Saharan Africa. These children are less likely to receive substantial health care, education or nourishment to live productive lives.

To this end, Albina du Boisrouvray established Association Francois-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB), a nonprofit that seeks to help support these orphaned children. In 2002, FXB established the first World AIDS Orphans Day, a day to raise awareness of and money for the millions of children who have been left orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

Today, May 7th, is World AIDS Orphans Day, and Causecast is proud to work with NextAid, a wonderful organization that seeks sustainable solutions to the issues facing African children. NextAid is hosting several events tonight, the proceeds of which will help them provide environmentally friendly and effective assistance to children affected by AIDS.

If you’re in Los Angeles, San Francisco or Omaha, you can attend one of NextAid’s World AIDS Orphans Day events. In Los Angeles, head over to King King in Hollywood around 8:30 p.m. for Playloop, an art auction featuring talented DJs that will go late into the night.

In San Francisco, you can hit up the Elbo Room around 9:00 p.m. for the West Coast CD Release Party of Funk Aid for Africa, a compilation album of African music by DJ OBaH. $15 gets you entrance to the party and the CD. All proceeds benefit NextAid.

Finally, if Los Angeles and San Francisco are too lame and un-hip for you, book it on over to Omaha, Nebraska. The Espana Tapas Bar will be hosting loom, an all-white attire silent auction to benefit NextAid.

FXB estimates the 10 million more children will become orphans due to AIDS just in the next year. You can help right now by donating to NextAid. NextAid also has materials for spreading the word about this crisis and can even help you plan your own benefit event.

As with every cause we support, it takes more than one day to solve a problem. Become involved and make every day a reason to influence change.
