Obama Likes Dijon Mustard, I Like Real News

by MELISSA JUN ROWLEY, Contributing Writer
It’s official. Network news reporting is now in the same ranks as TMZ with regard to broadcasting and dissecting the mundane minutia of a public figure’s life. For those of you who have not caught wind of this earth-shattering event, President Obama requested Dijon mustard on the cheeseburger he ordered at an Arlington, VA, hamburger joint he visited with Vice President Biden on May 5.
Conservative Fox News talk show host Sean Hannity criticized Obama for his condiment choice, and said the Commander-in-Chief watched too much television as a child. Hannity played up his comments by following the burger video with a classic Grey Poupon commercial.
Since the fast food fumble hit the airwaves, reporting and blogging on the video has run rampant. Radio host Laura Ingraham asked “what kind of man orders a cheeseburger without ketchup, but Dijon mustard?” Seriously? It’s not like he asked them to top the burger with Lobster Thermidor a Crevette with a Mornay sauce garnished with truffle pate and brandy.
When major cable outlets take the time to produce a segment of this nature, one has to wonder how slow the news day must have been for this kind of coverage to A) be in high demand and B) be authorized by the gatekeepers upstairs.
Perhaps the people in charge thought the video would make great snacks for the Internets, and give us a close look at what President Obama is really like. Web fodder it is. Insight on Obama’s competence to run our country it is not.
In fact, I should stop writing now. This very Causecast article is perpetuating the consciousness that American’s don’t want access to real news. So I’m going to end now on this note:
Dear Mainstream Media,
Obama can eat all the Dijon he likes, and you can dish out all of his dietary habits and needs if you like. But if you’re going to keep my attention, you need to feed me something/anything with more sustenance.
