Mashable's Summer of Social Good - Stories4Good Contest

by ERICA LIEPMANN, Causecast Editor
Causecasters, sit up and listen.
Mashable, for those of you who don’t know, is an online resource for everything we’re all dying to know about Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and all those other social media sites we’re all addicted to. The minds behind Mashable believe that the Internet, and social media specifically, is a powerful tool to fundraise for nonprofit organizations, which they’ve taken it upon themselves to prove with their Summer of Social Good campaign. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that sounds like something us Causecasters can really get behind.
The crew at Mashable has picked four nonprofits to sponsor and the proceeds will be split evenly between them. By picking a range of different organizations, they’ve ensured there’s something for everyone to support. If you’re an avid animal activist, a portion of the funds raised will benefit the Humane Society and the World Wildlife Fund. If cancer’s your cause, then you’ll be happy that Livestrong: The Lance Armstrong Foundation is also a beneficiary. For those who make it their priority to fight against poverty and injustice, Oxfam America rounds out the list as the fourth beneficiary.
The newest episode in Mashable’s ongoing Summer of Social Good is this week’s online contest, Stories4Good. The good folks at Mashable want to hear all about awesome individuals who took it upon themselves to use their social media outlets to raise money for the causes and organizations they care about. By telling your story, not only can you be a part of the whole social media for social change revolution, but you can also win some prizes along the way. The top three stories will receive free social media books from Wiley publishers.
What to do? Write an amazing Causecast blog on your profile page about the time that you used social media to fund raise for a cause. Then, share it by posting it on the Mashable site. Check out the detailed instructions. The deadline to enter is this Friday, June 19th, so get busy blogging away!
