United We Serve: Obama's Introduction

by JONATHAN HARRIS, Managing Editor

It’s finally here. A summer 233 years in the making is upon us. President Obama is calling on all Americans to dedicate some of their time and energy to public service with United We Serve.

In his introductory video on Serve.gov, Obama explains that the government can take initiative, but it’s incumbent upon the people to take the next step. The federal government can rebuild schools, but volunteers are needed to tutor and maintain healthy communities in those schools. The White House can push forth advances in green technology, but Americans must buy the products that sustainable businesses produce. As we’ve discussed previously on Causecast, United We Serve is President Obama’s “ask what you can do for your country.” Except he’s not telling you to ask. He’s giving you options.

Causecast is partnering with the White House to bring you ideas for service and connect you with wonderful nonprofit organizations that can make your service more effective. You can get started by going to AllForGood.org and discovering the great scope of activities you can take part in. The more you serve others, the more you serve yourself.

Get involved. Join Causecast, President Obama, and your friends and neighbors in this groundbreaking summer service initiative.
