How to Organize a Clothing Drive

Check out Causecast’s United We Serve page for more summer Do-It-Yourself service projects!
We often don’t notice how much we own that could benefit others. Just imagine how many pieces of clothing are sitting in closets across America that never get worn. Get your community involved and start a clothing drive with your church, synagogue, soccer team or even a few friends.
•Spread the word. Let the community know you’re starting a clothing drive. Put up signs and encourage people to scour their closets. Charity Guide recommends setting a prize for the person who gives the largest contribution.
•Get a reputable agency involved to take the clothes. Goodwill and The Salvation Army are popular choices but you can explore other organizations like Midnight Run or Back-To-School Clothing Drive. Even a local clothing firm might want to sponsor your event and match a certain percentage of donations!
•Gather your clothes. You know you’re never going to wear that dress again. It could be another person’s treasure!
•Attend the event. Count all the clothing items donated and make sure to send a follow-up newsletter to everyone who participated thanking them.
