Act for Aung San Suu Kyi

You know the story. Now, it’s time to act.
Here’s what you can do for Aung San Suu Kyi:
•Sign up to host an Ignite for Burma event in your community on October 28.
When you sign up to be a part of the Ignite Project, you will receive a DVD of the documentary Crossing Midnight to screen at your event. The film tells the story of a group of Burmese refugees who set up a clinic and school on the border of Thailand. After you screen the film, you can help educate your peers about the crisis in Burma and urge your Senators to take action!
Over 80 colleges and universities have already signed-up!
•Send Shepard Fairey’s iconic image of Aung San Suu Kyi to everyone you know. Download the poster, post it up in your city, take a picture of yourself with it, and upload it to the Freedom to Lead Flickr Group or to Causecast’s Facebook Page.
This image has the power to be the centerpiece in the international movement to free Suu Kyi.
Just as Fairey’s image of Barack Obama influenced American culture in the lead-up to the 2008 election, the Freedom To Lead picture is a visual reminder of everything we want for the Burmese people.
•Promote Aung San Suu Kyi on your social media profiles. Make the Freedom To Lead poster your Twitter/Facebook avatar, write blog posts, and tag your friends within the poster!
•Write to President Obama asking him to print the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on all U.S. passports.
The United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. This document seeks to establish life, liberty and security for every person on Earth. However, right now, only 5% of the world are even aware that it exists. You can also sign this petition right now to help the HRAC get the declaration on our passports.
The Burmese military junta’s oppression of its people and Aung San Suu Kyi directly violates the declaration, and the international community must make it abundantly clear that this will not stand.
•Ask UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to increase pressure on Burma
Although Ban has already demanded that Suu Kyi be released, he is still planning his next visit to Burma, and it’s unclear how aggressive he will be.
Send a letter to the United Nations Headquarters in New York asking Ban to visit Burma as soon as possible, demand a meeting with Aung San Suu Kyi, and be unwavering in his commitment to freedom and democracy in Burma.
UN Headquarters address: 760 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017, USA
•Donate to the Human Rights Action Center.
Help this organization keep up the fight to free Aung San Suu Kyi and the people of Burma.
