Aung San Suu Kyi Found Guilty, Sentenced To Eighteen Months Of House Arrest

Nobel Laureate, democratically-elected leader of Burma, and Causecast Leader Aung San Suu Kyi was found guilty by a Myanmar court today and sentenced to another 18 months of house arrest.
The court initially sentenced Suu Kyi to three years in prison, but the sentence was commuted by General Than Shwe, leader of the Myanmar military junta, who altered the punishment to 18 months of house arrest, a move he said is aimed to curb instability.
Suu Kyi will have access to television and newspapers and will be allowed to meet with guests the junta deems appropriate.
Lawyers for Suu Kyi must appeal the decision within 60 days, if they choose to do so. The sentence, as it stands, will keep Suu Kyi imprisoned during the highly-anticipated Burmese elections of next year.
