A Cause for Comedy, by Kathy Eldon

by KATHY ELDON, founder of Creative Visions Foundation
I have a confession to make. I have never marched on Washington, burnt my bra, or gone to jail for a noble cause. However, I still consider myself an activist—a Creative Activist—someone who uses thought or imagination to seek solutions and inspire action. As a journalist and filmmaker I use the power of media to tell stories that will get people off their backsides and engaged in issues I think are important. Ten years ago, my daughter Amy and I launched the Creative Visions Foundation to support grassroots creative activists across the world who are using film, photography, art, theater, journalism—all forms of media and the arts—to inform, inspire and ignite positive change.
We ourselves were inspired by the life of my son Dan, a young photojournalist who was killed in Somalia where he was working for Reuters News Agency. We know Dan would be proud of the 65 projects and productions created by Creative Activists like him who are using the creative spark within them to ignite positive change across the globe.
Now we want everyone to join our Creative Activist movement! Together with Causecast and comedian Ben Morrison, Creative Visions Foundation is launching the third A Cause for Comedy event at the Hollywood Improv on August 27 at 7:00 p.m. If you’re in L.A., please come. If you aren’t, don’t worry because you can still get involved.
We want to know what you think a Creative Activist really is by uploading a video, showing us a photo, or writing a blog post at Causecast.org. All you have to do is login to your Causecast account and click on MY MEDIA or CREATE A BLOG POST. Don’t forget to tag everything with “C4C” so that we can find it.
Causecast is going to mash-up all of the content, and show them on stage at A Cause for Comedy on Thursday, August 27. Your messages—along with mine—will be subject to the wit of some of America’s funniest comedians, including Ben Morrison (Punk’d, AC4C), Ben Gleib (Chelsea Lately), Erin Foley (Last Comic Standing), Eric Schwartz AKA Smooth-E (YouTube), Hugh Moore (Live at Gotham) and Adam Richmond (Carson Daly). The mash-up will be shown at the event, which will be preceded by a fun party hosted by comic Nadine Rajabi.
If you can’t get to L.A. in time, A Cause for Comedy will be streamed live at Causecast.org/acauseforcomedy.
Please note! Local Los Angeles residents should log on to Causecast.org/acauseforcomedy to buy $15 tickets—or, better still, don’t be a cheapskate and go for the $100 option, which includes a copy of Dan Eldon’s book, The Journey Is The Destination signed by CVF founder Kathy Eldon (that’s me). 100% of the net proceeds from ticket sales go straight to Creative Visions Foundation to support our work with Creative Activists.
If you’re not convinced, watch a special message from me on why I started CVF and what creative activism means to me:
