Democratic Outrage Over the Public Option

After weeks of tumultuous debate, the White House may be willing to eliminate plans for a government-run health insurance option, according to reports on Monday. The news did not go over well with some leading Democrats. Representatives John D. Rockefeller (W. Va.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) vowed to keep the public option in the House bill, and Sen. Russell Feingold of Wisconsin said it was essential to reform’s success. Feingold told the Washington Post: “I don’t see how we will bring real change to a system that has made good health care a privilege for those who can afford it.”

Columnist Robert Novak Dies

The 78-year-old conservative columnist best known for outing CIA operative Valerie Plame has died after battling brain cancer, the Associated Press reports. Robert Novak was a columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times for decades as well as a television commentator.

Cyber Hacker Arrested In Massive Scheme

A 28-year-old American was indicted Monday in connection with the largest hacking and identity-theft caper in U.S. history, the Wall Street Journal reports. Feds alleged that Albert Gonzalez and two Russian men were behind a scheme to hack into the systems of five major global companies and steal data from more than 130 million credit and debit cards.
