Michael Moore's New Film - Capitalism: A Love Story

by SARAH NELSON, Contributing Writer
Michael Moore is known for his controversial documentary films that usually land him with a handsome lawsuit by the time any of them hit the silver screen. Yet, Moore continues to stick his proverbial fingers in the side of those others dare not question – the government, the auto industry, the NRA and the health care industry. Moore’s latest target is his biggest yet – the United States Economy. Moore’s upcoming film, Capitalism: A Love Story, takes on the upper echelon of corporate America in a crime story…about class warfare. Moore attacks the principles of capitalism that have allowed large corporations to profiteer off of recession-weary working class Americans. Moore exposes the consequences that occur when Wall Street gets greedy: the Government can be bought and the people are left with the tab.
Like his other films, it is likely that Moore’s latest will set off a firestorm of debate from both corporate America and conservative American media. Critics may argue that Moore’s discontent with the laws of capitalism naturally supports an argument for a socialist economic system. However, Moore doesn’t seem to attack capitalism as a whole – he addresses the aftermath that comes from taking advantage of the idea of privatized industry. Selfishness leads to greed which leads to more greed and eventually – the money runs out. And who ends up picking up the pieces? The millions of Americans losing their homes and their jobs as the vicious cycle continues. With 700,000 Americans losing their jobs every month and unemployment nearing ten-percent, Moore may see more support from the general public than his previous films have received.
Capitalism: A Love Story opens September 23 in limited release and nationwide October 2. This film is slated to be Moore’s last documentary as he hopes to branch into other film genres in the future. Whether it really is his last documentary or not, it looks like he’s packing a punch with this one:

interesting. i've been thinking about this topic recently. what would happen if mcdonald were to cease to exist? what happens if every corporation in this country were to operate in the vein of toms shoes? as in serving a higher purpose besides being in the business of making money. i don't really understand the point of making lots of money. it seems useless to me.
