Free The Slaves Joins Causecast, Presents Freedom Awards

by ERICA LIEPMANN, Causecast Associate Editor
Here at Causecast, we’re thrilled to announce that Free the Slaves is the newest featured non-profit organization to join our team!
Free the Slaves was founded in 2000 to end slavery and human trafficking around the world. After writing the book Disposable People, which exposes modern slavery and its connection to the globalized economy, author Kevin Bales joined friends Jolene Smith and Peggy Callahan to found Free the Slaves. Today, their organization works on the ground in nations around the globe, liberating individual slaves and helping them create new lives for themselves, while working for larger sustainable solutions to combat trafficking. Free the Slaves has also developed an ambitious 25 year plan to end global slavery.
In 2008, Free the Slaves created the Freedom Awards to honor modern day abolitionists that are bravely confronting and rooting out slavery around the world. This year, the Freedom Awards are putting the spotlight on women – honoring a group of all-female recipients.
The 2009 Award show promises to be an inspiring evening with activists from all over the world joining together to support the fight against slavery. In addition to the impressive list of international liberators slated to attend the Awards, the event also features some high profile attendees, including Hollywood couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.
On October 13, tune in for the Freedom Awards and the Freedom Rocks after-party live streaming on Causecast:
