The situation in Burma is dire. The elected democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been imprisoned or under house arrest for the better part of 20 years. The military dictatorship continues to oppress the voice of the people through violence, like the bloody 2007 Saffron Revolution. Millions of Burmese are displaced or forced into refugee camps.

On October 28, student activists on college campuses all over the U.S. will host Ignite for Burma events, inspiring their peers to take action for the people of Burma. Over 80 schools are already participating, it’s not too late to sign-up to host an event at your school!

The Ignite for Burma Project is a collaboration between LoveMine, the U.S. Campaign for Burma, ehelo, the Free Burma Rangers, Partners Relief and Development and…Causecast!

The agenda for the Ignite for Burma night:

•Screening a documentary on Burma, it’s called “Crossing Midnight.”

• Educating one another about Burma, the history, the people, the regime. Understanding why the regime is oppressing it’s people and why the world tolerates it’s actions.

• Action: each person who attends will call or email their Senator, urging President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton to pressure the U.N. to act on Burma.

Here’s a little inspiration:
