Adopt A Turkey This Thanksgiving

Each year, 300 million turkeys are killed in the U.S. to meet our nation’s demand for turkey meat and to adorn our annual Thanksgiving feasts. This year, Farm Sanctuary hopes you will choose to adopt a turkey, instead of eat it.

Going meat-free has many benefits for your health, the environment and of course…the animals. If you’re brave, check out Peta2’s undercover footage of how turkeys are treated – you might just have a change of heart about chowing down on turkey meat. The folks at Gentle Thanksgiving have come up with a list of ten reasons to bypass the turkey this Thanksgiving. My favorite reasons? “Animal advocates will cherish you” and “You won’t fall asleep during the football game.”

If you decide to spare a turkey this year, you can sponsor adopt one, meaning you will make a donation for its care but it will live on a Farm Sanctuary shelter. You get an adoption certificate with a photo of your turkey, its name and fun facts about it. Or you can actually adopt one and have a brand new pet roaming your yard!

Ginnifer Goodwin wants you to adopt a turkey this Thanksgiving:

If you decide to go for it, here are some awesome meat-free recipes for your Thanksgiving celebration!

Here are some other ways to take action for turkeys:

• Sign the pledge to make your Thanksgiving turkey-free!

Distribute adopt a turkey info in your neighborhood – spread the word on saving turkeys!

• Each Thanksgiving, Presidents traditionally “pardon” a handful of turkeys. Tell President Obama to send the pardoned turkeys to Farm Sanctuary, where they can have a good life.

Donate tofurkey to your local homeless shelter!
