Idealist Launches Global Network

by SARAH NELSON, Contributing Writer
For the socially-conscious out there, you’re sure to have stumbled across Idealist.org at some point. An off-shoot of the nonprofit, Action Without Borders, Idealist is an online resource for socially and environmentally conscious people to find ways to change the world. This is the kind of site you stumble across and say, "JACKPOT."
The Idealist community is made up of more than 90,000 nonprofit organizations all over the world. It offers users access to volunteer opportunities, information on job openings with nonprofits and public service agencies, information on social campaigns and more.
Recently, the brains behind Idealist decided that they needed to do even more. This week, Idealist launched a Global Network of Idealists. You can find the new site at Idealist.org/more – the proud motto of the network is “Imagine, Connect, Act.” The vision behind this site is to find ways to close the gap between good intentions and the lack of action.
In their own words:
We believe that all over the world people and communities face three common challenges:
• There is often a big gap between our good intentions and our actions.
• Our problems are connected, but we are not.
• The world is full of good ideas that don’t spread quickly enough.
What we need, then, is a network, a movement, an ecosystem that will:
• Make it easier for people and organizations to move from intentions to action.
• Connect people, organizations, and resources in every possible way.
• Find good ideas wherever they are, and distribute them as widely as possible.
If this is a vision you share, join the Network for Idealists and share your ideas. Connect with people like you who want to be part of something significant and make a difference locally and around the globe.
Since Idealist.org/more is brand new – they’re eager to hear your comments as they continue to build this new site and bring the vision into reality.
Finally, spread the word on all your social networking site! So far, over 6,000 people have joined.
