Tanaka’s secret recipes:

So I want to start today’s blog off by telling you all a secret recipe of mine, it is too good to keep to myself! So here it goes…

Tanaka’s “Yum In My Tum!” Vegetarian Recipe:

• Any kind of organic whole wheat pasta
• Artichoke hearts
• Two chopped Roma tomatoes
• Broccoli florets
• Baby carrots
• Kalamata Olives
• One or two Tofurkey Italian Sausages (from Trader Joe’s)
• Basil (2 Tbsp)
• Sea Salt (to taste)
• Pepper (to taste)
• Sauce: Olive Oil & Red Wine Vinegar (to taste)

I first steam the broccoli and carrots while cooking the wheat pasta in a separate pan. Once the pasta and veggies are tender, I mix in the rest of the ingredients, sausage and sauce with the veggies into container and shake it up to spread the flavor around. Serve and wah-la! You got yourself a tasty healthy dinner! I love making this dish because it’s so easy and delicious (especially with the Tofurkey sausage..mmm!!).

Now if only I had a bottle of organic wine to accompany this lovely dish…

Anyways, so I know everyone has been talking about how farmers markets are all the rage right now, but do you know if there is one in your area? What is organic really? And how does it differ from other products that claim to be “natural”?

Hmm…even these questions run through my head when I go to the grocery store. But hey! If you are looking to buy organic and want to save some change I found the Organic Food Coupons site, just print, shop, and save! Maybe you can pick up some Nature’s Path Organic Flax Seed w/ pumpkin seeds cereal at Trader Joe’s while your out (my favorite with soy milk!). Photobucket

So obviously I don’t always cook at home, sometimes going out to eat could actually be a treat. Take Real Food Daily for example, I ate there before and I fell in love with it! I love the fact that many of the dishes they offer are organic, natural, and somewhat raw for the most part. I even bought the Real Food Daily cookbook. I love feeling as though I am feeding my body energy with all the right nutrients to function well. I think of good food as the Tin Man’s oil from Wizard of Oz.

So choose right and eat well.

More to come later- eco friendly restaurants and lounges? Ooh! Sounds like fun doesn’t it?!?!

I was walking around Fresh and Easy looking for dinner ideas and came up with this. Tasty and can easily be made vegan:
whole wheat pizza dough, 2 fresh tomatoes crushed for sauce, fresh basil (F&E sells basil plants!), cheese (can get soy cheese at Trader Joe's), sliced red, green and yellow peppers, onions, and jalapeno peppers (F&E has a fajita mix that works PERFECTLY for this). I drizzle it with a homemade chipotle sauce (half mayo, half yogurt, chipotle peppers and garlic salt to taste) and bake it at 400 for ~20 min, then top it with fresh avocado. I personally mix fresh garlic and melted butter for a dipping sauce, but then again, I am not disciplined enough to be vegan!
