Dear Friend,
As 2008 comes to a close, we are faced with immense challenges and exciting opportunities. On the heels of our national victory in banning toxic phthalates from children's toys, the Breast Cancer Fund is poised to make groundbreaking inroads in 2009 to prevent breast cancer.
Janet Nudelman, our superwoman of program and policy, returned just days ago from a meeting in Washington with the Obama transition team.
Alongside our environmental health allies, Janet presented recommendations to President-elect Obama's team for necessary legislative reforms and new policy priorities to reduce our toxic exposures linked to breast cancer.
Because of the promising opportunities ahead, a generous supporter has just committed to match your donation to the Breast Cancer Fund, up to $7,500. Your donation will make a difference, but you now have the opportunity to double its impact. Help us meet this great challenge, bringing us closer to our goal of raising $100,000 by the end of 2008.
Your donation will make possible our ambitious agenda for the months ahead:
• Establish a federal ban on toxic BPA. The Breast Cancer Fund will work to ban bisphenol A (BPA) in all food and beverage containers. BPA is a toxic chemical linked to breast cancer, birth defects, obesity and diabetes.
• Expand the national agenda to include cancer prevention. In the upcoming legislative session, we will work to shape the new federal War on Cancer to ensure that it includes a strong commitment to reducing cancer rates by funding research and initiatives that identify and eliminate the environmental links to cancer.
• Eliminate toxic chemicals in cosmetics. We will work to support federal and state legislative initiatives that require cosmetics manufacturers to remove toxic chemicals from their products.
You have entrusted us to work tirelessly toward our founder Andrea Ravinett Martin’s vision of eliminating the environmental causes of breast cancer in the air we breathe, the water we drink and the consumer products we use every day. We need your support to continue the momentum and sustain our work in 2009.
Thank you again for your support.
Yours very truly,
Jeanne Rizzo, R.N.
