Organization Description

In 1993, Global Green USA was founded by Diane Meyer Simon to serve as the American arm of President Gorbachev’s Green Cross International. Global Green has been a national leader in championing smart solutions to climate change for more than a decade. Global Green has been instrumental in forwarding the construction of green affordable housing and green schools.

Since Hurricane Katrina, Global Green has battled climate change in New Orleans ­ the first American city ravaged by climate change’s impacts ­ by launching an innovative strategy to rebuild the city green. In 2008, Global Green unveiled the first finished home in their green affordable housing project in the Lower 9th Ward. When completed the project will include five single-family homes, an apartment complex, and community center.

Global Green’s unique approach merges innovative research, cutting-edge community based projects and targeted advocacy that:
- Educates hundreds of millions of people annually
- Leverages billions of dollars for environmental initiatives
- Implements ground-breaking environmental policy
- Improves the lives of tens of thousands in low-income communities
