Organization Description
I Live Here is a visually stunning narrative in which the lives of refugees and displaced people become at once personal and global. It is a raw and intimate journey to crises in four corners of the world: war in Chechnya, ethnic cleansing in Burma, globalization in Mexico, and AIDS in Malawi.
The voices we encounter are those of displaced women and children, in their own words or in stories told in text and images by noted writers and artists. The stories unfold in an avalanche: an orphan goes to jail for stealing leftovers. A teenage girl falls in love in a city of disappeared women. A child soldier escapes his army only to be saved by the people he was taught to kill.
Mia Kirshner’s journals guide us through a unique paper documentary brought vividly to life in collaboration with J.B. MacKinnon, Paul Shoebridge, and Michael Simons, with featured works by Joe Sacco, Ann-Marie Macdonald, Phoebe Gloeckner, Chris Abani, and many others.

Hi, I Live Here.
My name is Danny Heggen, and I have recently published a book about homeless youth in Iowa. The book captures the voices of nine homeless youth who use Youth & Shelter Services, Inc. shelters in Iowa. The book details these nine youth's lives growing up, using the services provided, and their future hopes.
Proceeds from the book sales are going back to Youth & Shelter Services, Inc., specifically for educational opportunities. If you'd like to check us out, you can find our blog here: blog.shriekingtree.com.
I love what you're doing, sharing these voices. It's a great way to educate those who live and work outside of these issues in our communities.
Thanks,
Danny
Thanks for such an amazing book! I caught moments of your CBC interview as I drove through the mountains. I just managed to pick up enough reception to get the name of the publication. The rest is history. Cheers.
Thank you Mia (and all the others involved with ILH) for such an eye-opening, cut to to chase, no holds bar, no sugar coating provided book regarding issues that we never process. Thanks for your email reply. I look forward to the Harvard reading and hope others get on board and support the foundation! Best to you, Lori Brock...
