LA's BEST After School Enrichment Program is raffling off the luxurious, all-new 2010 Lexus RX 450h. TICKETS ARE $250 AND ONLY 500 TICKETS WILL BE SOLD. You can feel extra lucky knowing that the full price of your ticket helps LA's BEST provide engaging activities and a safe place to go after school for the 28,000 children in the program. The drawing will be held June 7, 2009 at the LA's BEST 14th Annual Family Brunch. Winner need not be present.

Each day after school LA's BEST provides its students with homework assistance, a cognitively based enrichment activity (i.e. science club, math club, literacy activity), a fun recreation activity of their choosing (i.e., dance, sports, art, cooking), and a nutritious snack.
In addition to daily core activities, LA's BEST has several enhanced programs available to students including:
ASAP includes visual art, music, dance, drama and poetry classes, and features artists/educators—in—residence working with the LA's BEST children. Each 10—week residency concludes with a special culmination event which brings together students, families and community members to celebrate the talent and accomplishments of the children.
BEST Fit provides fun and innovative opportunities for LA's BEST children and their families to increase their physical activity, encourages healthy habits including drinking more water and making healthy eating choices, and teaches kids and parents to understand ...Read More -

Painting with Jane Seymour

On September 15th, ten lucky LA's BEST students from Shenandoah Elementary arrived at Jane Seymour's west side art studio for a once-in-a-lifetime workshop of "Watercolor Painting With Jane". Moving through the dazzling studio to an exterior work space replete with a cascading waterfall and all imaginable art supplies, the students were quickly captured by Jane's life story and the central role art has played through the years. Following Jane's illustrations and directions, students soon became watercolor artists, creating original abstracts, flowers and other images in delicate and occasionally bold flowing colors---often to their own surprise, delight and pride. An individual photo of Jane and each student holding his/her best original artwork will commemorate this outstanding workshop for years to come.
