Organization Description

NextAid works in collaboration with partners on the ground in Africa and a wide spectrum of volunteers and dedicated supporters in the U.S. in order to develop community-driven environmentally, economically and socially empowering responses to the AIDS orphan pandemic. NextAid has garnered a strong response from the dance music community and partners with DJs, artists, promoters and other music industry professionals to raise funds and awareness for its projects in Africa.

NextAid current projects in Africa are the following:

NextAid/YWAV Community Center and Children’s Residential Village in Dennilton, South Africa.

NextAid’s pilot project began construction in July 2005 and is intended to serve as a beacon of hope in a community that has been devastated by AIDS.   Youth With A Vision (YWAV), a South African based organization that uses theater and music to teach AIDS awareness and other issues to its peers and neighbors, is our amazing partner and beneficiary in this endeavor. Intended to showcase natural building design, the earth-friendly sustainable village will be a place where resources can be concentrated, aid can be efficiently distributed and where the youth can reach their individual and collective potential. So far, more than half of the 20+ structures have been completed with an expected completion of June 2010, so that the grand opening will coincide with the World Cup.

Kawangware Street Children and Youth Project

The Kawangware Street Children and Youth Project is a locally created and managed organization started by former street kids to provide positive opportunities to get youth off the streets in their community- a slum bordering Nairobi. The youth’s primary income generating business is making and selling silk-screened gift bags out of recycled paper.  The profits from their business enable the participants to generate income for themselves and to take care of the community’s orphaned or vulnerable children, while providing a productive and positive environment for the youth.  NextAid is building a new “green” workshop and multipurpose program facility to expand their operation and ultimately serve more youth.
