House of OM
- Posted on 06.05.09
Om Records had just "adopted" one of the houses at the NextAid Youth With A Vision Community Center and Children's Village in Dennilton, South Africa. This means they are making a commitment to utilize their networks to raise all the funds to build them! Om Records has been a long time partner of NextAid since the release of the ReBOOT compilation in 2005. Help OM, help us! Fans can make a donation here (http://filez.om-records.com/ecard/nextaid/houseofom.html)
The House of Om will be a safe, comfortable, loving four-bedroom home for 6 children who have lost their parents to AIDS, and an adult caretaker. The house will be built using natural building methods. Examples of sustainable techniques used in the construction of the Dennilton village are hybrid systems of compressed-earth blocks and earthbags and metal roofs with water catchment gutters and cisterns.
Founded in 1995 as a response to the cross-pollination of the funky underground music scene in San Francisco, Om Records is powerhouse music company with over two-hundred and fifty releases under its belt, as well as a global events production company with over three-hundred massive music showcases a year from Tokyo and Dubai to Spain and Brazil, and a style brand with design accolades ranging from nearly every major publication in the world including VIBE, BILLBOARD, THE NEW YORK TIMES, and more. Branded the United Nations of Future Music, Om’s mission is to find, put out and promote music that is refined, innovative and always pushing boundaries.
NextAid Youth With A Vision Community Center and Children's Village in Dennilton, South Africa. In 2005, in partnership with Youth with a Vision, a South Africa-based nonprofit, NextAid began work on a community center and children’s residential village in the poverty-stricken town of Dennilton, two hours NE of Johannesburg. So far, 16 structures have been completed. The ecological village will serve as a safe home for 30 children, a multi-purpose center for the entire community, and a model of best practices for future projects.
